AlphaGo Challenges Human Players to Develop More Creativity

 


According to Engadget, an amateur player won with an artificial intelligence system that is renowned for its power in this year's tournament. The victory is due to a strategy developed using software developed to research Go systems like KataGo. This is just one aspect that has led to the revival of Go, which has seen humans become more creative since AlphaGO's notable victory in 2016.



In a recent study, Researchers from the City University of Hong Kong and Yale researchers from Yale and the City University of Hong Kong analyzed a database that included more than 5.8 million moves performed by professionals between the years 1950 between 1950 and 2021. Utilizing the concept of a "superhuman" Google AI, A computer program that can play Go and evaluate the performance of one move, they came up with an index known as"the "Decision Quality Index" (DQI). 


This study showed that humans Go players are less reliable with time. The team found that before 2016, professional gaming improved only marginally annually and its median DQI change of just 0.2.


In some instances, the number of games played decreased. However, the rise in human-like AI in 2018 led to the mean DQI increasing and changes exceeding 0.7. The exact time players started relying on more creative strategies during their game, with the number of unique combinations growing from 63 per cent in 2015 to 88% in 2018.
